TEMPO.CO, Palembang-Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan says the government continues to try and put out forest fires in the hope to reduce haze.
Fire extinguishing in several hotspots continue to be done, but due to its condition and extensive location, personnel are having difficulty putting out the fire. The excessive amount of peatland in South Sumatra also making it harder to extinguish, he said in Palembang, Tuesday, October 20.
Luhut has been instructed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to optimize the extinguishing of hotspots including in South Sumatra. This effort can at least minimize haze prior to rain showers, he said.
