TEMPO.CO, Jayapura - To accelerate Papua's development as expected by President Joko Widodo, the Papua and West Papua Road Office for Region X is speeding up the 4,325-km Trans Papua road construction project.
"In this project, there are 827-kilometers of jungle and wilderness that we need to open," the office's chief Oesman Marbun said on Wednesday, September 9.
According to Oesman, the office needs around Rp15 trillion to pave the create a 827-kilometer road dividing the province's jungle; a work expected to take three years or until 2018.
In carrying out the Trans Papua project, Oesman said, the office has to deal with a number of constraints such as customary land rights. He said he needs help from the local government, particularly at the road construction site.
"During this time, the local government has been very helpful, for example, in paying for the land," he said.
