TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Popular smartphone brand Oppo will open its new factory in Indonesia. The factory, located in Mauk, Tangerang, is the company's first factory outside China, its native country.

With a land area of 27,000 square meters, the factory is divided into three parts: storage warehouse, production site and quality control laboratory. The company decided to establish its new factory in Indonesia of its high demand for Oppo products. Oppo managed to capture 8.8 percent of total smartphone sales in 2014.

"Demand in Indonesian market is quite high. According to the data, Oppo takes the market with 8.8 percent. We want to maintain [the market share] and increase it," said Aryo Medianto, media engagement officer of Oppo Indonesia on Tuesday, August 25, 2015.

Currently, there are three Oppo smartphones being produced in Indonesia: the OPPO Joy Plus, OPPO Neo5 and OPPO Joy 3. With a monthly production capacity of around 30,000 to 40,000 units, Oppo expects to produce 200,000 units of smartphones by the end of this year and hope to achieve a maximum production capacity of 500,000 per month.

"We can only produce 30,000 to 40,000 units per month because we're still new. We hope we will be able to produce 500,000 units per month like our factory in Shenzhen," said Marthias, engineering assistant manager at the Oppo factory.

In order to achieve the target, Oppo plans to expand its production lines from the previous five to 20. Oppo also plans to add the number of employees from 150 operators to 2,000 along with the increase in the factory's production capacity.
