TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - After twice summoned to provide an explanation for his actions, North Sumatra Governor, Gatot Pujo Nugroho was indicted for bribery last week. A few hours before the announcement was made by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Gatot held a short press conference at a hotel not far from the KPK office in South Jakarta. Gatot's second wife, Evi Susanti, who was also indicted for the same crime, was present at the occasion.

Why did you push Ahmad Fuad Lubis to sue the Prosecutor's Office at the administrative court (PTUN)?

My wife and I disagree with the move to sue.

Fuad said you asked him to use the services of lawyer O.C.Kaligis.

Look. My staff, the Regional Secretary and the Finance Bureau was summoned by the Prosecutor's Office and the District Attorney's Office. I told my staff to comply with the summons. They were to be accompanied by a lawyer. Because Kaligis was my lawyer, I suggested that they use his services. I don't know what happened after that.

How long have you known Kaligis?

I've known him since I married Evi Susanti.

One of Kaligis' staff was caught trying to bribe a judge.

I never order that. My wife even suggested to Kaligis not to take the case to the administrative court.

You were twice questioned by the KPK what did you tell them about bribing the judge?

We were not asked about that, only whether I knew Kaligis, three administrative court judges and their clerks. (*)
