TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- The government would oblige businesses trading online to obtain an identification number after the draft Presidential Regulation (RPP) on Trading Through Electronic Systems is signed, officials said Thursday, August 6.

The Director of Trade Business Development, Directorate General of Domestic Trade of the Ministry of Trade, Fetnayeti, said the identity number be obtained by all e-commerce businesses in order to protect businesses and consumers, as well as creating consumer confidence when conducting transactions online.

"After the presidential regulation is passed, e-commerce businesses should have licenses in accordance with prevailing regulations. To obtain such permit, they must get a certification from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. It requires a valid accountable system," said Fetnayeti.

According Fetnayeti, so far online trading has not been monitored, so the obligation to have the identification number will facilitate monitoring. On the other hand, the identification number will create an good trading atmosphere, that can increase the contribution of the online retail to the overall trade, which is still currently relatively small.

"E-commerce is an alternative to how we encourage the retail trade," she said.
