TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- Indonesian-made unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) OS-Wifanusa conducted a demo at the Sulaiman Airbase in Bandung on Wednesday, July 29, 2015. The UAV, made under the Indonesia Maritime Institute (IMI), was designed in collaboration with PT Trimitra Wisesa Abadi.
The aircraft took off from a runway with ease.
“OS-Wifanusa needs a 50-meter length runway in order to take off on water,” Y. Paonganan, the inventor and one of OS Wifanusa designers, said on Wednesday.
Paonganan explained that the UAV has equally good specifications compared to the similar products made by other countries. The UAV can be controlled up to 100 kilometers away and is able to send real time video feed for research purposes. The UAV is equipped with multispectral camera for remote sensing.
“OS-Wifanusa can fly up to 7 hours nonstop. The engine uses fuel injection, so it would be more efficient if the UAV flew above 1,000 meters. It’s safer than the UAV using ordinary carburetor,” he said.
Paonganan added that the UAV can reach up to 5,000 meters with a travel distance of 600 kilometers and a speed up to 100 kilometers per hour. The UAV has been certified by the Indonesian Navy at Jatiluhur Dam.
