TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Democrat Party spokesman Ruhut Sitompul said that party chairman, former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, has taken a stance on the House of Representative's (DPR) decision to include the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Law revision in the National Legislation Program discussion.
"He said 'save KPK'," Ruhut told reporters in the parliament complex on Wednesday, June 24.
Yudhoyono, Ruhut added, also said that the KPK is still needed and loved by the people.
According to Ruhut, Yudhoyono believes that the KPK Law is still relevant. However, the sixth president admits that the law needs to be revised so that the antigraft body's performances can be monitored—particularly when wiretapping and bugging government officials or other parties.
"But we disagree if [the revision] eliminates KPK's authorities and stopped the issuance of Investigation Termination Warrants (SP3)," said Ruhut.
The House has agreed to include the revision of Law No.30/2002 on the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in the National Legislation Program for 2015. The decision was made in a plenary meeting yesterday afternoon, June 23, 2015.
A total of 315 Council members who attended the meeting agreed with the decision.
