Only 60 Million Indonesians Have Bank Accounts, Report Says

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance and Strategy Executive Officer of PT Bank Mandiri Kartika Wirjoatmodjo said that the total number of bank account owners in Indonesia only reaches 60 million people of the total Indonesian population that reaches around 250 people.
Based on the statistics of bank account distributions of March 2015, the number of bank accounts reaches 163.59 million bank accounts or grows by 32 percent from 123.12 million bank accounts in the same period last year.
From the total customers who save their money in banks, Kartika said that most of them have at least two bank accounts.
"In major cities, there are still around 70 million that do not have bank accounts while in villages, the number reaches 100 million people,” he added.
