TEMPO.CO, Bandung - Saritem Red Light District remains operational nearing the fasting season, amid its recent shutdown by Bandung Police and City Administration.
Tempo reported on Sunday June 14 that the red light district was still hosting several prostitutes. Despite being less crowded than that prior to the shutdown, some men were seen entering houses in Saritem.
One apparent difference in Saritem today is that the prostitutes are not displayed in public, instead they are hidden inside the house.
"We only have few now. Some of them have returned home. Some others are still detained by the Social Agency," said one of the hostesses.
Police raided and shut down Saritem on May 20, detaining 169 prostitutes and leaving them to the Social Agency. Police have also arrested 28 pimps, mostly for employing underage women.
