TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the National Commission for Women, Azriana, said that the Aceh regional government's policy on women’s curfew is not appropriate. "That is a discriminative policy," said Azriana.
Azriana said that the policy will definitely limit women's movement in Aceh. Azriana claimed that a lot of Aceh's women need to work in this modern era, including by taking a night shift.
"Government should facilitate them instead [of limiting their movement]," said Azriana.
Azriana claimed that the government should come up with better policy, instead of forbidding women from coming home late at night. She said that what Aceh women needs more than just a curfew is a policy on Domestic Violence. "Aceh has many domestic violence cases," said Azriana.
Banda Aceh Mayor Illiza Saaduddin Djamal, explained that the curfew bans women from going out with man who is not her spouse above 10:00 PM Western Indonesia Time.
