Sex Workers Support Ahok in Legalizing Prostitution

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama has stated a notion of legalizing prostitution for a couple of times. The notion solidified following a massive blow on online prostitution, culminating on a raid towards Kalibata City apartment last month.

Ahok's radical notion, however, received support from sex workers. Dian Andriani, 22, claimed that it would be better for her if the plan is realized.

Dian said that legalization will provide protection to her profession. "We now feel like being watched and chased," she said.

The legalization, she said, can also cover medical check up for both sex workers and users. "The government can help by running regular intervention," she said.
