TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama said that the Jakarta government has prepared the National Monument (Monas) area as a gathering spot for labors on May 1, 2015.
Ahok said that location could be used to conduct Friday prayer. "We prepare water for wudhu," said Ahok on Wednesday, April 29, 2015.
Ahok explained that on May Day, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman and M.H. Thamrin, two of Jakarta main thoroughfares will be closed from 06:00am to 5:00pm Western Indonesia Time. However, Transjakarta buses serving the Blok M-Kota route will continue to operate.
Regarding laborers demand to increase minimum wage, Ahok said that the decision would be up to the Manpower and Transmigration Ministry. Labor unions recently demanded the government to determine 84 components of decent living standards, while the Manpower and Transmigration Minister Regulation No. 13/2012 on Decent Living Standard only regulates 60 items.
