Govt Needs Rp20tn for City Gas Program

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The government will add more than one million household gas pipe installations over the next five year, a project that requires Rp20 trillion, Energy and Mineral Recourses Minister Sudirman Said yesterday said.

Sudirman said the government will allocate funds from the state budget to 40,000 homes in ten cities. Right now, the government is building gas installations in 90,000 houses in several cities.

A number of state enterprises are taking part in the project. PT Pertamina (Persero) will install 81,000 household gas pipes in di 28 cities while PT Perusahaan Gas Negara will build them in some 1 million homes in 172 cities.

Since the program debuted in 2009, 89.460 household gas installations are now available in 23 cities. This year, the government plans to expand the household gas network to two more cities, Lhoksukon in North Aceh and Pekanbaru, Riau.
