Energy Minister to Steer Clear of Planned Petral Disbandment

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Minister Sudirman Said said he would not intervene in the possible disbandment of Pertamina Energy Trading Limited (Petral)—state-run oil and gas firm PT Pertamina’s trading arm based in Singapore.
“About Petral, it will be a corporate decision,” he said at Sultan Hotel on Wednesday, April 22, 2015.
He said governmental interference would be done by State-owned Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno. “Bu Rini has the authority to decide, because the shareholder of Pertamina with the power to do so is the State Enterprises Minister,” he said.
Earlier, rumors were rife that Petral was bound for disbandment following alleged dirty business besetting the imports of oil and fuel in its operation. Rini said yesterday the disbandment of Petral was only a matter of time.
Sudirman said he was not involved in the decision-making process. “Not all corporate interests are discussed with the ESDM Minister,” he said. He hoped whatever the decision would be would not affect fuel circulation and thus vex the society.
“I think what needs to be done is make a healthy chain of supplies,” he said.
