TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Legislative Council has started to pitch a plan to impeach Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama. During a hearing of the City Council's inquiry team on Monday, April 6, 2015, City Council member Muhammad Syarif asked leaders to exercise the right of opinion in order to follow up the team's investigation results.
Syarif claimed that he had managed to pool 28 signatures from his fellow councilors to meet the requirements to exercise the right of opinion. Syarif has also requested the City Council leaders to schedule a discussion on the issue next week.
"Based on the regulation, we have collected signatures from more than 20 members who agree to exercise the right of opinion," Syarif said during the meeting on Monday, April 6, 2015.
According to Syarif, the support to exercise the right of opinion came from 15 members of the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) faction and 5 members of the Functional Group (Golkar) faction.
"The rest will come from the Propserity and Justice Party [PKS] faction," Syarif added.
After a month of investigation, the City Council's inquiry team reported its investigation results on the Jakarta 2015 Budget and the regional government ethics. The team concluded that Ahok had violated Law No. 17/2003 on the State Finances, Law No. 23/2014 on Regional Governments and Government Regulation No. 58/2005 on Regional Financial Management.
The team also suggested that Ahok had violated ethics and norms by calling the City Council and its members as "thieving councilors."
