TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo said that the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) would not discuss the possibility to appoint a deputy chairperson since the position was uncommon for the party.
"I can say that there is no such thing [as deputy chairperson]. The chairman of the [PDI-P] central executive board and the secretary general are sufficient to lead the party," Tjahjo said on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, after a coordination meeting at the Coordinating Human Development and Culture Ministry office in Jakarta.
Tjahjo added that the position would not be opened to facilitate Puan Maharani, who is the dauther of chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri.
"Puan is always at Megawati's side. So Puan shouldn't be necessarily included in the organizational structure [of the party]," Tjahjo explained.
The PDI-P will hold a national congress on April 8 to April 12, 2015, in Bali to inaugurate Megawati as the party's chairperson. Tjahjo confirmed that President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and Jusuf "JK" Kalla will attend the congress.
