TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Management of Gembira Loka (GL) Zoo Yogyakarta announced its plan to build new carnivore park that will commence on early August. According to the Director of GL Zoo KRT Joko Tirtono, several African carnivores such as jaguar, cheetah, and other big cats will be inhabiting the new park along with Sumatran tigers.
“Although we have planned it since a long time, we can only realize it on the upcoming August, simultaneously with the construction of other facilities,” said Joko as quoted by Antara News.
“Other wild cats other than the tigers will arrive from Africa,” said Joko.
The zoo had previously built bird park zone inhabited by penguins and hundreds of other rare bird species. The new park is expected to be the other potential tourist attraction.
“Although we already have penguins, we will also add flamingos to inhabit the bird zone,” Joko added.
Joko said that the fund for the construction is taken from the zoo’s deposit. The zoo is welcoming more and more tourists each year.
“For this year (2015) we are targeting to attract 1.9 million visitors, more than last year.”
