TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Kidul Mountain Regency administration is planning to build a stone museum or stone garden on 11-hectare land in Cave Ningrong karst area, Mulo Wonosari. The Rp3.8-billion project is funded jointly by Energy and Mineral Resource Ministry and Yogyakarta Previlege Fund.
“The garden will house samples of stones from prehistoric to present age that will be taken from Sewu Mountains,” Heri Sukmono, the Head of Tourism Product Development Unit of Kidul Mountain Tourism and Culture Agency on Friday, February 6.
The selection and research on the garden’s content will involve Bandung-based geologycal agencies.
“May be we start with 100 items, ranging from small size to those that weigh in tons,” Heri explained.
“The target is to offer the tender.”
Hanang Samodra, the lead researcher of Geological Survey Center of Bandung ESDM said there will be at least four group of prehistoric stone samples dating back to 1.2 million to 20 million years.
