TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Automotive industry shows a positive trend as it has absorbed about 3.1 million labors, comprising of 1.8 million workers in motorcycle factories and 1.3 million others in car industry.

“The increase in labor absorption [in automotive industry] is due to a growing market and new factories,” Industry Minister Saleh Husin said in Karawang, West Java, on Friday, November 21, 2014.

According to Saleh, the idustry’s growth was reflected by a significant increase in motorcycle and care sales over the last two years. In terms of fuel price hike, Saleh claimed that it would not affect manufacturing industries and, hence, the number of labors, since they did not depend on subsidized fuel.

Astra Honda Motor President Director Johannes Loman confirmed that fuel price hike would have a significant impact on automotive industries, including on his company.

“Fuel price hike will indeed affect the company, but it would not be significant. I think the effect would last for three to six months. After that, it will return to normal,” Johannes told Tempo in Karawang on Friday, November 21, 2014.
