TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – A protest staged by the Prabowo-Hatta ticket’s supporters in front of the Constitutional Court on Jl. Merdeka Barat is simmering, with an orator threatening to assassinate General Elections Commission (KPU) chief Husni Kamil Manik.
“If necessary, we will kidnap Husni Kamil Manik, we will try him. We will kill [him],” said the orator, who donned a red Garuda—the symbol of the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party—shirt through a loudspeaker on Monday, August 11, 2014.
The protesters responded to the call by shouting “kill!” A number of protesters asked by Tempo on the scene said they were ignorant of the identity of the orator.
“Don’t try to mess with the militancy of Prabowo’s supporters. Together with M. Taufik, we will fight against injustices. Prabowo’s supporters will not fall back even an inch,” the orator continued.
Earlier, the chairman of the Gerindra Party’s Jakarta regional executive board, Muhammad Taufik, said he would kidnap KPU chairman Husni Kamil Malik as he alleged the KPU had rigged the July 9 presidential election.
Early in the morning, Husni reported Taufik to the National Police headquarters for an alleged abduction threat by means of violence, a violation against Article 336 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) on Threats.
