TEMPO.CO, Puerto Rico - A group of scientists has discovered new species of water mite in Puerto Rico. The new mite was then named Litarachna lopezae. The lopezae part was taken from the Latin singer name Jennifer Lopez, Web Orange reported.
"The reason behind the unusual choice of name for the new species is simple: J.Lo's songs and videos kept the team in a continuous good mood when writing the manuscript and watching World Cup Soccer 2014," said Vladimir Pesic from Montenegro University to Web Orange.
The new mite was found at a depth of nearly 70m (230ft), the greatest depth that Pont arachnid mites have been found until now, according to their study.
Over the years, scientists have named dozens of organisms in honor of famous people such as Mick Jagger whose name was taken for a trilobite and U2’s Bono whose name was taken for a spider. A marine parasite found only in Caribbean Sea was named after Bob Marley.
