TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Palestine Ambassador to Indonesia Fariz Mehdawi, stated that his government has sent a formal letter to the United Nations (UN) asking for assistance and protection in the Gaza conflict with Israel. He said that Palestine is also requesting assistance from the Non-Block Countries and the Islamic Cooperation Organization.
"We request that the UN place all Palestine citizens under the international protection of the UN," said Fariz yesterday.
He also thanked Indonesia for the US$ 1 million aid fund for the people of Gaza. The aid will be sent in the form medical supplies because many citizens in Gaza require medical attention. "We need medical supplies as soon as possible," said Fariz.
He also said that the current situation is Gaza is getting more and more critical as thousands of people and children have lost their homes. Everyone in Gaza is under pressure by the Israeli attacks and blockades. "This is terrorism towards our children and our people," he said.
