TEMPO.CO, Muzdadiya - The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) attacked a military base at Diyala Province, northeast of Baghdad on Thursday, July 10, 2014. Al Jazeera reported that the attack took place 80 kilometers outside Muqdadiya, the capital city of Diyala. In the last few weeks, the northern part of the city has been under ISIS control.
A security source said that the insurgents cast along hundreds of heavily armed non-Iraqi Arab warriors, some of which were the horse cavalry. Negotiation has been taking place between the insurgents and local sheikh for the terms of ceasefire.
Other media report that local authority has managed to regain control of the military base. A anonymous source said that ISIS occupied the base for a brief moment before "local warriors" came to the rescue.
