TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - John D. Kasarda, Director of Center for Air Commerce of the University of North Carolina, on Tuesday said that aviation industry in Asia-Pacific regions recorded a remarkable rapid growth.
Based on a report, airlines in Asia Pacific throughout 2002 to 2013 had ordered almost 12,000 various types of airplanes through Boeing, Airbus and other aircraft manufacturers.
“It’s a fantastic number and will keep growing up to 35 percent until 2031,” he said.
Asia-Pacific aviation industry also has a large number of passengers. “There are around four billion passengers that visit Asia Pacific region and will increase to 14 billion in the next 20 years,” said Kasarda.
Another indicator is that eight out of 20 of the world’s biggest airports are in Asia-Pacific regions. “Those airports are the best and the most luxurious such as in Dubai, Doha and Singapore,” he said.
Indonesia, specifically, is also experiencing a significant growth, but he deplored the condition of Indonesia’s aviation infrastructure. “Infrastructure facilities such as airports, harbors and highway must be developed to the fullest so that connectivity between Indonesian regions can be improved.”
