TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa presidential pair advocacy team had planned to report the rival presidential candidate, Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, to the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) for campaigning before the official starting day of the campaign period, as reported by Antara News.
"Yes, we will report them," Habiburokhman, a team member, stated on Monday.
On Sunday June 1, during a draw to decide the campaign numbers for the two presidential tickets in the National General Election Commission (KPU) headquarters, Jokowi made remarks that were perceived as part of his campaigning effort for his presidential nomination.
During the draw, Jokowi got the serial number 'Two' and Prabowo Subianto got the number 'One'.
"Number 2 is a symbol of balance. There are right and left eyes, right and left ears, and right and left hands. To strive towards achieving a more harmonious and balanced Indonesia, chose number 2," Jokowi stated during the KPU gathering.
Habiburokhman considered Jokowi's statement as a campaigning effort. In fact, the KPU has issued a schedule that the presidential campaign period will start on June 4, 2014.
"It is categorized as a campaign. Firstly, Jokowi mentioned his vision and mission for achieving a more harmonious Indonesia. Then, he asked the people to choose," he added.
Habiburokhman urged Bawaslu to take a stern stance and not hesitate in calling Jokowi for clarification. "If it is proven, the penalty is 12 months in jail," he reiterated.
As a presidential candidate, Jokowi should become a role model for the people by behaving politely and abiding by the regulations," he added.
