TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned airline Garuda Indonesia will have 27 new planes to serve domestic routes by the end of the year, according to service director Faik Fami.
These new planes, a mix of Boeing, Airbus and ATR models, will help in making Garuda's fleet as one of the most up-to-date in the world, and to support eight new routes that will be opened this week.
"The average [service] age of our fleet is around four and a half years old, considered young as the average carrier has a fleet [with a service age] of more than 10 years old," said Faik on Friday, May 2, 2014, adding that the new planes will arrive periodically every month.
Garuda continues to add more planes to in an effort to support the goverment's Master Plan for Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesian Economic Development (MP3EI).
"Garuda is particularly tasked to improve connectivity between islands and cities in remote area. I hope we can do it," Faik said.
