TEMPO.CO, Raleigh - A Marine Corps base guard at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina shot and killed his associate on Tuesday night, April 8 2014. According to The New York Times, the suspect fired an M4 riffle around 17.30 local time. A spokesman for Camp Lejeune, Nat Fahy, said that the two marines’ names had not been released.
According to him, paramedics tried to help the victim was unable to save his life. The victim died on the way to the base's hospital. Fahy also said that the suspect was now being detained and waiting to be probed by the Naval Criminal Investigative Services.
The shooting occurred inside the post guard within an area of 16 meters cube and under a canopy. Fahy said he did not know if the victim and the suspect were the only ones at the post guard or there was someone else inside. Internal affairs investigators, meanwhile, said the shooting was not an act of terrorism.
The incident occurred only several days after the shooting at Fort Hood, Texas, where an army soldier was suspected of having fired 35 rounds in eight minutes. Four people died and 16 were injured in the incident.
Despite the murder's taking place at a military base, Fahy emphasized the tragedy was different from the one at Fort Hood. He added this incident had nothing to do with what happened at Fort Hood.
