TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Police Chief Inspector General Dwi Priyatno, said that his institution will deploy 20,000 special-skilled personnel to secure the legislative election on April 9, 2014.
"They are experts in sharpshooting and martial arts," Dwi said at North Jakarta District Police headquarter on Sunday night.
The personnel were also trained to communicate properly with people, according to Dwi. He said that security measures will be focused on community services.
Dwi added that the personnel will be assigned to stand guard in vulnerable polling stations (TPS). Of 40,000 stations, hundreds of them were identified as violence-prone and in need of extra security during the election.
Jakarta Police deputy chief Brigadier General Sudjarno, said that one polling station will be guarded by at least one police officer.
