Tourism Sector Books US$10 B State Revenue

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Mari Elka Pangestu, claimed that the tourism sector has contributed US$ 10 billion of state revenue. She added that the number puts tourism sector as the fourth most-contributing sector following oil and gas, coal, and palm oil. "Tourism sector plays an important role in Indonesian Economy," the Minister said.
Moreover, Mari said that the tourism sector also provides direct contribution to Indonesia's Gross Domestic Product.
Mari also mentioned that the tourism sector helps to absorb around 10 million workforce. Therefore, she said that sustainable development in tourism sector is highly crucial.
In order to discuss more about sustainable development in the tourism sector, Minister Mari has formed a communication forum as a media to communicate and coordinate needed efforts. "The forum will be highly strategic to boost revenue and draft the medium-term Development Plan for 2015 to 2019 period," she said.
