TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Eva Chairunisa, a spokesperson of the Jakarta electric train operator PT KAI Commuter Jakarta, said the last 30 new electric trains to be operated by the company had arrived from Japan, marking the completion of the train procurement for the capital. A total of 180 trains have been imported from Japan since November last year.
“They arrived last night at Tanjung Priok 304 dock, North Jakarta. They will be brought to Pasoso Station this morning at 08.00 am,” Eva said in a press release Tempo received on Monday, March 17, 2014.
The imported trains from Japan are used trains that have been fully repaired so as to be used again in its full capacity for a long run.
Eva said only 40 of the total trains had been operative as the Transportation Ministry’s Directorate General of Trains had only issued certificates for the 40 trains. “The remaining 140 trains are still undergoing static and dynamic tests and we are still working on their interior design as well,” she added.
Eva said PT KAI would purchase another 176 electric trains of the JR 205 series from Japan.
