TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Task Force (SKK Migas) reported that the haze that hit Riau province and its neighboring areas has disrupted the production of national crude oil.
SKK Migas spokesman Handoyo Budi Santoso said that hundreds of oil wells were forced to shut down as the workers could not work because of the haze. "I am very concerned about this condition. If it persists, the national production will be threatened because Riau is the backbone of the national oil production," he said in a press release, Sunday, March 16, 2014.
SKK Migas estimated that the loss of the supply of national oil production since Wednesday, March 12, 2014 reached 12,000 barrel per day (Bph), following the closing of hundreds of oil wells owned by a number of operators.
It also said that the contractors operating in Riau whose business were disrupted are among others PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia (PT CPI), PT BOB- Bumi Siak Pusako, and PT EMP Malacca Strait.
Handoyo hoped that all parties could join hands to contain the haze so that disruption to the national oil production will not last too long. He also said that Upstream Oil and Gas industry players have been lending their hands to help overcoming the haze.
