Yogyakarta, Solo Airports to Open Tomorrow

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief of the Communications Division of The Ministry of Transportation, Bambang S. Ervan, said that the Directorate General of Air Transport stated after closing of Adi Soemarmo Airport Solo and Adi Sutjipto Airport Yogyakarta since the eruption of Mount Kelud on Friday, the two airports are due to operate tomorrow morning. "They are closed until Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at 6 am. It is now currently being cleaned of the volcanic ashes," he said.
After the evaluation, up until yesterday afternoon, both airports are not yet clear for operation because there are still some thick volcanic ashes on site. The runway is still being cleaned. "Including the navigation systems, terminals, and radar equipments," said Bambang.
A number of aircrafts were also being cleaned. The closing is purely for the safety and the readiness of the airports to operate again. While it is reported that the air conditions in Solo and Yogyakarta have been clear of the volcanic ash from Mount Kelud.
