TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Transportation Minister Bambang Susantono stated that all airports run by Ministry of Transport subsidiaries Angkasa Pura I and Angkasa Pura II are over-capacity.
"The capacity [of terminals] has exceeded 100 percent," he said in Air Transport Seminar between Indonesia and Japan, in Jakarta earlier today.
Bambang said that currently, Angkasa Pura I and Angkasa Pura II operate 13 airports. Meanwhile, the Technical Administrator Unit (UPT) at the Air Transportation Directory manages 273 airports.
He added that the over-capacity issues have been anticipated through several programs in the Master Plan of Indonesia Economy Acceleration and Expansion (MP3EI). There are over 49 activities, divided in six segments, with a total cost of Rp 114 trillion.
The government has also planned and budgeted the construction of 24 new airports worth Rp 2.1 trillion.
"Twelve of which have been operating since 2013. Seven others will open this year, and five others in 2015," he said.
