TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The salary of a TransJakarta bus driver has continued to increase ever year. In 2011, their salary was only Rp2,000,000 – Rp3,000,000 per month. After a while, they had their salary increased up to Rp5,000,000 per month. At that time, one of the considerations to increase the salary was that their initial pay was insufficient.
The Jakarta provincial government thought the monthly salary of Rp2,000,000 – Rp3,000,000 was almost the same as what Metro Mini or taxi drivers make.
This salary element has also been included in the requirement of operator tender of TransJakarta bus. The requirement states the salary of a driver must be 3.5 times higher than the minimum wage in Jakarta province.
Today, the Jakarta provincial government has increased the salary of the drivers.
During the recruitment of 1,500 new drivers of TransJakarta in 2014, the Jakarta provincial government offer Rp5,000,000 salary for a Busway-Integrated City Buses (BKTB) driver, Rp6,000,000 for a single TransJakarta bus driver, and Rp7,000,000 for an articulated TransJakarta bus driver.
Udar Pristono, Head of Jakarta Transportation Agency, hoped that the salary could put those drivers at ease in their job. "It is the salary that matters. So, those drivers are expected to be ease in working," he said.
However, Udar elaborated no details about other facilities provided by the drivers.
