TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - It only takes four minutes to practice Tabata, but the effect is claimed to be greater than running or walking on the treadmill for half of an hour. Tabata was developed by Professor Izumi Tabata from Japan and is super high-intensity interval training.
The training he has been using to firm and tone his muscular body is a system of high intensity interval training based on the principle of 20 seconds of intense exercise followed by a rest period of 10 seconds – repeated eight times. That's a workout of only four minutes excluding the warm-up and cool-down. You may experience extreme pain and fatigue right after the training.
"It's exhausting after only 20 minutes. It feels like you've had a good gym session and because it's so short you can slot it in easily," said Louis Smith, a bronze medaler in the pommel horse at the Olympics as quoted by Express.co.uk.
Although the four-minute training is good for those who are always busy, people with the history of heart disease and high blood pressure should consult the doctors before deciding to have some of the training.
