TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Microsoft has decided to rename SkyDrive to OneDrive. This decision came after the online data storage had several issues. The name change of the service that has run since 2007 is of course a tough thing for Microsoft.
"Of course, changing the name of a product as loved as SkyDrive wasn't easy. We believe the new OneDrive name conveys the value we can deliver for you and best represents our vision for the future," Microsoft wrote on its official website.
This name change has been in plan since July last year. Microsoft was sued by British Sky Broadcasting for trademark infringement. This case had been brought to the court. Microsoft was lost and chose to rename instead of appealing for the court’s decision.
SkyDrive is an important feature for Microsoft. It allows users of Windows 8.1 to set it as storage for all files so that they can be searched in Windows phone or other devices.
Microsoft will also add new features to OneDrive. However, with the change of name, Microsoft must re-launch this service with its new name in order to notify users that SkyDrive is not gone and only changes to OneDrive.
