TEMPO.CO, Semarang – The central government is preparing a Rp 4 trillion (around US$327.50 million) fund to help fishermen and farmers, many of whom have experienced heavy losses during this rainy season. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Rajasa, said that the fund will be disbursed after recommondation letters have been issued by regional agencies and leaders.
In addition, Hatta stated that the Central Government has also prepared a special fund for rice procurement in anticipation of food shortages.
"The fund will include Rp 2 trillion for rice," Hatta said.
Semarang Mayor Hendar Prihadi, welcomed the central government's preparation. He said that he will immediately order local agencies to collect data on fishermen’s losses in Semarang.
"The total number of losses are unknown. There will be reports from related agencies," Hendar said.
The Regional Government of Semarang plans to build a coastal belt in partnership with the Central Java Provincial Government. The project relies on additional funding from the central government, however.
