TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 6.5 magnitude earthquake, which hit Central Java on Saturday, January 25, 2014, has left damages to dozens of houses in the province and the surrounding province of Yogyakarta.
Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, Head of Information Data and Public Relations of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said that the earthquake, which was located at the depth of 48 kilometers to the southwest of Kebumen, affected 6 sub-districts.
"Preliminary reports reveal that the earthquake has destroyed dozens of houses. As of now, we have not received reports of fatalities," said Sutopo in a press release.
In Purworejo regency, Sutopo said, the earthquake severely damaged two houses located in Krandengan village, Bayan sub-district and Tangkisan village respectively. The earthquake also tore down 16 houses in Pekunceng sub-district. "It also destroys one the porch of a mosque," he said.
Sutopo further said that the agency still continues to collect data on the impacts of the quake.
