TEMPO.CO, Zurich – The raging debate on who will become the world's best player in 2013 was resolved last night as FIFA awarded Ballon d'Or to Cristiano Ronaldo in Zurich Kongresshaus. The award marks Ronaldo's second Ballon d'Or.
Ronaldo stepped on the podium, looking emotional and bursting into tears when he received the trophy. The fact that he failed to win a single title with Real Madrid and Portugal National team throughtout 2013 has made his winning seemed like a Cinderella matchup.
With a total of 69 goals in 2013, CR7 won Ballon d'Or against strong contenders like Lionel Messi and Franck Ribery. The three were considered to share equal footing to the award, as Messi was last year's awardee and Ribery won Champions League with Bayern Muenchen. Regardless, Ronaldo stood a step ahead of Messi as he heroically brought Portugal to qualify to World Cup 2014 with four goals against Sweden.
