TEMPO.CO, Bekasi - The National Police’s detective unit has recently raided a home on Tuesday night suspected to be the base of a human trafficking ring in West Bekasi. Over one hundred unlicensed female migrant workers (TKW) were discovered in the home.
Police managed to rescue 161 candidate migrant workers, 20 of which were still underage. They were transported these past three months by an agent for migrant workers from East Nusa Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, and various regions in Java and Kalimantan. The home was the transit location for these women before they are sent off to a number of countries, such as Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Deputy director of the general crimes division within the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim), Sr. Comr. Toni Hermanto, stated the police have only managed to nab two suspects during their raid.
Comr. Arie Dharmanto, head of the trafficking unit of Bareskrim’s crime division, said the police are still looking further into this case, which may also involve international human trafficking rings.
The raided home was reported to have been a transit location for this human trafficking ring for six years. Neighboring residents were clueless on this matter.
