TEMPO.CO, Bandung - Residents of the Girimukti Village, Sukabumi, have reported sightings of Javanese Leopards (Panthera pardus melas) in an area south of the village. Recently, four sheeps were ambushed by leopards on Monday, October 21.
Didi Nuriadi, a local resident, stated that the sheeps were attacked on Monday afternoon local time. The shepherd Dadang, ran for safety and informed the other citizens.
"Later when the residents came to look for the sheeps, the leopards ran into the forests," Didi told Tempo.
The area where the leopards were seen is located around two kilometers away from an area where an adult male leopard was captured on Sunday, October 19. In response to the attack, residents setup a bamboo trap cage.
"The residents have agreed that they will not kill the leopard," Didi confirmed.
He added that residents have even filed a request to the government and conservation institute to help capture the beast.
