TEMPO.CO, Malang - The Press Council demanded Indonesian Police Chief to re-investigate and solve the murder case of Bernas daily journalist, Fuad Muhammad Syafruddin (Udin), which took place in Bantul, December 16, 1996.
"We will send a letter to the Police," said Nezar Patria, member of Press Council yesterday.
The Press Council requested an audience with the Police and military judge advocate to give an explanation on Udin’s death case.
Jakarta High Military Court has given copies of dossiers on Bantul Regent Sri Roso Sudarmo which had been received by Criminal Detective Agency two weeks ago. "It requires political willingness or the violence towards journalist case will always be a threat," Nezar said.
Police investigators were requested to investigate deeper on Sri Roso’s involvement in Udin’s death, facts, data and other information. "We are looking for gap to continue the case," he said.
Udin’s death was allegedly connected to the news he had written. One of them was about the corruption in the fund for Presidential Decree on Underdeveloped Village in Karang Tengah Village Imogiri.
