TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Inspector General Ronny Frankie Sompie, the Chief of Public Relation Division at the National Police Headquarter, said that the Anti-terror Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88) is worth keeping. He mentioned that the counter-terrorism act is as important as corruption eradication matter.
In light of the Densus 88 dismissal discourse, Ronny said that it will not force the Police to do so. "It is a matter of perception that the community is yet from seeing the battle against terrorism," he explained.
Prior to this, the Islamic Defender Front (FPI) demanded the dismissal of Densus 88, accusing it of making false arrest and violating human rights while on duty. FPI Chief Habib Rizieq said that Densus can be the enemy of Islam, and that it is possible that Moslems will fight them in the future.
Inspector General Ronny argued that the demand has no stance, given that Densus is seen required by both the Indonesia Police Force and the Domestic Ministry to cover security issue in terms of war against terror.
