TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Police Deputy Chief Comr. Gen. Oegroseno refused to speculate as to which terror cell was behind a series of police shootings recently.
“The police do not want to speculate if the Abu Roban terror network was behind the police shootings in the past month. We are still investigating who the perpetrators were,” the general said in a gathering at Nelayan Seafood restaurant in Pademangan, North Jakarta, on Sunday, August 25, 2013. Tempo was asking Oegrosono whether the Abu Roban terror cell was the one launching the attack on police.
Many have suggested the police keep an eye on the Abu Roban terror cell, which is known to have an operation method enabling its members to launch terrors without the immediate consent from their commanders.
Many have also alleged the Abu Roban masterminded the attack to avenge the deaths of 67 of its members the police and its anti-terror Detachment 88 gunned down.
However, Oegroseno declined to discuss these possibilities. “We are still investigating the revenge motive. The important thing is that police personnel must step up their vigilance.”
