TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) plans to hold a convoy around the capital after the completion of its national assembly.
“We will do it on Sunday after the assembly ends,” FPI spokesperson Muchsin said on Friday, August 23, 2013. He claimed the FPI had secured a permit from the police.
“There’s no problem with the permit. We will comply with the procedures,” he said.
The convoy will kick off from their headquarters in Petamburan, Central Jakarta to Pasar Senen, Salemba, Jl. Gunung Sahari, Jl. Hayam Wuruk, and then return to Petamburan.
National Police Chief Gen. Timur Pradopo confirmed the FPI had informed the police on the planned convoy. “We hope this event will not disturb the public,” he said at the presidential palace on Friday, August 23, 2013.
The FPI national assembly began on Wednesday, August 22 until Saturday, August 24, 2013 at the Haj Dormitory in Bekasi and was opened by Religious Affairs Minister Suryadharma Ali.
The FPI has also invited Social Affairs Minister Salim Segaf, who is scheduled to close the event.
“Why the Social Affairs Minister? Because the FPI has a close relationship with the ministry, as we often cooperate to provide social aids for the people. One of the events was when we organized a house renovation event for the poor. But this good event was not well-covered by the media,” Muchsin said, laughing.
