TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The people of Tanjung Duren, West Jakarta were startled by explosions at the Ekayana Vihara, Sunday August 4. Melissa, one of the witnesses, said she heard three explosions. "The explosions were quite loud," she said.
Melissa said that the first and second explosions happened at around 7.00 pm local time. The third explosion was at around 10.00 pm. "The explosions occurred about half an hour after a service in the temple," he said.
The National Police Headquarters' spokesman, Brigadier-Gen. Ronny Franky Sompie, confirmed that explosive sounds were heard at the Buddhist monastery.
"It is true, but we're still gathering more information," he said on Sunday, August 4.
Tempo gathered that the explosions may have come from bombs planted at the entrance of the temple. According to reports, three people were injured. The Jakarta Police bomb squad is still working on the scene.
Based on information gathered by Tempo, the bomb squad found a large black plastic bag inside a garbage can, 20 meter from the scene.
