TEMPO.CO, Washington - United States Department of State stated that talks on middle-east issues will be resumed on Monday, July 29, to facilitate a direct negotiation between Palestine and Israel.
The statement, issued on Sunday, July 28, also claimed that US Secretary of State John Kerry have spoken with both Israeli and Palestinian leaders and "personally extended an invitation to send senior negotiating teams to Washington to formally resume direct final status negotiations."
Spokeswoman for the Department of State Jen Psaki said in the statement that these meetings will take place on Monday and Tuesday evening, local time.
Palestinian news agency, WAFA, quoting Nabil Abu Rdaineh, a senior aide to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, mentioned that the first meeting would aim to develop a procedural working plan for both sides to enable them to advance in talks in the coming months.
Talks between both nations have stuttered for decades. There was even no talks on September 2010 when Israel refused to stop the construction of illegal settlements within the occupied Palestinian territories.
