TEMPO.CO, Jayapura – The Papua Police have declared Nabertus Yeimo, the chairman of the local boxing match committee, as a suspect in the boxing match riots in Nabire district.
According to Papua Police Chief Insp. Gen. Tito Karnavian, the committee has allegedly violated Article 39 and 89 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 51 of Law No. 3/2005 on National Sporting System.
Tito said that Article 89 paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code stipulates that without any permit or recommendation, any damage or threat against the safety of others during an event will be punishable by five years in prison and fined Rp 5 billion (around US$497,798). "This is what we applied to the committee. We suspected that they don't own any permit or recommendation," said Tito on Thursday, July 18.
