TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The third Makassar International Writers Festival (MIWF) will be held from June 25 to 29 at Fort Rotterdam. The theme for the festival this year is "My City My Literature". MIWF 2013 curator coordinator Aslan Abidin said the local and international participants would tell stories about the development of their respective cities, including the development of literature.

Some of the more well known writers scheduled to attend the festival include Dewi Lestari, Joko Pinurbo, Mochtar Pabotinggi, Anna Weekes from Cambodia, Kelly-Lee Hicky from Australia, Luka Lesson from Australia, Qaisra Shahraz from Pakistan, and Wendy Miller from Australia.

The team of curators also selected six writers from eastern Indonesia to present their literary masterpieces including Mario F. Lawi (Kupang), Christian Dicky Senda (Kupang), Amanche Franck OE Ninu (Kupang), Muhary Wahyu Nurba (Makassar), Mariati Atkah (Makassar), and Jamil Massa (Gorontalo). These six writers are considered to offer fresh, new, and distinctive local cultures in their work.

Aside from that, the "Sastra dan Sarabba" poetry reading session will also take place in the nighttime at the Fort Rotterdam yard where listeners can enjoy hearing the poets express their minds while sipping on a hot cup of sarabba, a Bugis-Makassar drink made from ginger and palm sugar. For five days, literary enthusiasts will be entertained with at least 40 events.
