H7N9 Costs China Poultry Industry Rp 63 T

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - H7N9 Avian Influenza that strikes China for the last three months devastated the poultry industry in the nation. Government official called that the virus cost the nation as many as 40 billion Yuan or Rp 63.58 trillion.

Li Xirong, the Head of China National Animal Service, said that the sector experienced 1 million Yuan daily ever since the case was revealed on March. "That was just an estimation," he said as quoted by Beijing Times on Monday.

Li said that the poultry market drop to fifty percent, causing the price to decrease. Moreover, the avian influenza cost lots of unemployment. "The industry was devastated this year," he said.

Wang Zongli form Chinese Agriculture Ministry, said that China closed down all poultry market in the nation since April 6. "The plan is that Shanghai will re-open some poultry market. However, it is yet to be announced," he said.

To date, H7N9 virus attacked one-hundred-and-thirty people, killing thirty-five of which. The virus also caused the death of a Taiwanese, after returning home from his work in China.
